The Virginia softball team continues Atlantic Coast Conference play this weekend when it hosts Boston College in a three-game series at The Park this weekend. UVa and the Eagles play a doubleheader on Saturday (March 31) at 1 p.m., followed by a single game on Sunday (April 1) at 1 p.m.

The series begins a 10-game homestand for the Cavaliers. Virginia is 11-22 overall and 0-6 in the ACC this season. UVa is coming off a 6-5 win over James Madison on Wednesday (March 28) in Harrisonburg, Va.

“We must play great defense, pitch with command and hit with runners on base and with two outs in order to be successful this weekend,” said head coach Karen Johns. “Boston College will be hungry to get back on the field after two wins on Thursday. We will have a tough challenge in front of us.”

Boston College, which has had multiple games postponed or canceled this season, stands at 3-11 overall and 0-3 in the ACC. The Eagles are coming off a pair of six-inning shutout victories over Holy Cross on Thursday (March 29) in Worcester, Mass. Boston College posted 8-0 and 9-0 wins over the Crusaders. BC opened ACC play at North Carolina on March 24-25 and lost all three games to the Tar Heels.

The Eagles lead the all-time series against Virginia 2-1. The two teams met for the first time in the 2006 season with Boston College winning two of three games in Chestnut Hill, Mass. BC swept a doubleheader on April 29, 2-0 in eight innings and 5-2. UVa took the third game of the series 1-0 on April 30.

First-year Kelly Haller (Leesburg, Va.) has stayed red-hot at the plate and is hitting .427 (38-89) this season with 10 multiple-hit games. She has hit eight home runs and also leads UVa in RBI (30), slugging percentage (.764) and doubles (6). Fourth-year Brooke Sorber (Alexandria, Va.) is hitting .314 (16-51), which is second on the team.
