Greensboro, N.C. – Attackman Ben Rubeor has been named ACC Men’s Lacrosse Player of the Week announced by the league on Monday. The nation’s leading scorer, Rubeor helped the Cavaliers open their ACC schedule with a 12-8 victory over Maryland on Saturday before 5,048 fans at Klöckner Stadium.
He scored five goals and added one assist in the Cavaliers’ win over the Terrapins, the eighth time in nine games this season he has led the team in scoring. It took him only nine shots to score the five goals; he also snared two ground balls.
The junior from Towson, Md., scored three goals in the first quarter to help UVa build a 4-3 lead after 15 minutes of action. There were three ties as well as a trio of lead changes in the first quarter alone.
After Maryland tied the game early in the second quarter, Rubeor tallied what proved to be the game-winner, six minutes and 49 seconds before halftime to give his team a 5-4 lead. His goal started a 5-goal run for the Cavaliers that enabled them to take control of the contest. Rubeor’s fifth goal of the day pushed Virginia’s lead to 9-4 early in second half. He also assisted on Jack Riley’s goal early in the third quarter that pushed the UVa lead to 7-4.
Rubeor has scored 34 goals and tallied 49 total points in just nine games for the Cavaliers, who host Binghamton tomorrow at 4 p.m. This Saturday (April 7) the Cavaliers host North Carolina at 7 p.m. as they attempt to set a single-game attendance record for lacrosse at Klöckner Stadium.
