CHARLOTTESVILLE – The No. 49 Virginia women’s tennis team won its second consecutive match with a 5-2 victory over Boston College Sunday afternoon at the Boyd Tinsley Courts. The win improves the Cavaliers’ record to 10-8 on the season, 4-5 in the ACC, while the Eagles fall to 4-14, 0-9 ACC.

Virginia took the 1-0 lead in the match by winning two of the three doubles contests. Caroline Hammond (Williamsburg, Va.) and Lara Alexander (London, England) topped Lauren Cash and Dasha Cherkasov 8-2 at the No. 1 position. Amanda Rales (Bethesda, Md.) and Lindsey Pereira (Arlington, Texas) clinched the opening point for Virginia with their 8-2 win at No. 3 doubles against Brittany Delaney and Gia Nafarrete.

Boston College drew even, 1-1, as Cherkasov defeated Maggie Yahner (Las Vegas, Nev.) at No. 2 singles. The Cavaliers quickly clinched the dual match with three victories just minutes apart. Rales topped Sarah Svoboda 6-3, 6-0 at No. 5 singles. At No. 4, Pereira defeated Alina Sullivan 6-4, 6-1. Hammond clinched the dual match with her 6-1, 6-1 win over Nafarrete at the No. 6 position. Brintney Larson (Orchard park, N.Y.) recorded the final point of the match for Virginia as she defeated Cash 6-1, 6-7, 10-7 at No. 3 singles.

Virginia will close out the regular season with a pair of home matches next weekend. On Saturday, the Cavaliers host Clemson and on Sunday, they host Georgia Tech.
