Virginia’s Ryan Foster, who has won two ACC titles, will run this weekend at home as the Cavaliers host the Lou Onesty/Milton G. Abramson Invitational. Foster helped the Virginia cross country team win the ACC Championship in 2005 and in 2006 was the ACC Champion in the 10K. Virginiasports.com had the opportunity to visit with Foster and introduce him to Virginia fans.
My primary inspiration in sports is:
I run to praise God, engage myself, and to inspire others to something great.
My advice to players is:
Don’t be afraid to out work every competitor so that when you meet up, you know you brought it all to the table.
The best thing about the University is:
It provides me the opportunity to purse my athletic and academic ambitions simultaneously.
The best advice I ever received is…. (and from whom):
My parents always helped me to see satisfaction in the little steps that lead to larger success. The underlying advice: be satisfied with all of your accomplishments and excited at the prospect of more.
My favorite moment in sports history (personal):
Winning my first ACC title on the track and the enthusiastic response it got from my family and friends.
Best track & field competition I have ever seen:
The memorial 10k at the Cardinal Invitational 2 years back. There were a handful of the best distance runners in the world in the field and they picked my eyes up and made me aspire to the next step.
Why I participate in track and field….:
I’m pretty good!
A brief summary of my early athletics history (introduction to the sport, etc):
A few of my older siblings ran in high school and I followed the same path.
If I could invite someone to dinner, it would be (and why):
Adam Nelson. Because he is a multiple Olympic medals and he just wanders around the track so casually.
Why Virginia?:
Honestly, it just happened that way. But once I got here and got to really know the school, I knew I was in the right place, and not by accident. I was so sure by my second year that I got a winged track shoe tattoo on my hip with the Virginia sabers beneath it.
The most important thing I learned while participating in sports is…..
Life is just like any sport, but there aren’t any time-outs and you can’t quit. You play fair, you work hard, and you’ll win.
What makes me unique?
I’ve skinned a buck-deer. There is probably a small percentage of UVa students that can say the same.
