Charlottesville, VA – The 20th-ranked Virginia women’s golf team plays in the 19th annual Atlantic Coast Conference Championship April 13-15 in Charlotte, N.C. The 54-hole tournament will feature 18 holes of competition per day at the par-72, 6,293-yard Carmel Country Club.
Duke has dominated the championship winning the title every year since 1996. The Blue Devils own a total of 14 ACC titles while Wake Forest has claimed three and North Carolina one.
Last season Virginia finished second behind the Blue Devils for the best showing in the Cavaliers’ history. Virginia shot 904 behind Leah Wigger’s runner-up finish at 219 on the Pinehurst No. 8 course. Amanda Blumenherst of Duke took medalist honors at 212.
Rachel Smith was 11th at 227 while Carly Truitt posted a 13th-place finish at 228. Lauren Mielbrecht was 15th at 231 and Jennie Arseneault was 26th at 235.
Heading into this week’s tournament, Wigger is ranked No. 14 by Golfweek while Arseneault is No. 35. They will be joined in the Virginia lineup by Rachel Smith, Kristen Simpson and Whitney Neuhauser.
Virginia will be paired with Wake Forest and Duke during the first round that gets underway at 8:30 a.m. Friday.
As the nation’s second-ranked team, Duke leads the field in the Golfweek standings. North Carolina is 18th followed by Wake Forest at No. 19. NC State is the only other ACC squad in the Golfweek top-50. The Wolfpack is ranked No. 36. Live scoring of the event will be available at Golfstat.com.
ACC select will broadcast on-demand video streams of the championship for the first time. Fans can watch live beginning at noon on during Sunday’s final round. ACC Select’s exclusive coverage will include a recap of the first and second rounds of competition, live final round coverage and the awards ceremony. The event will also be available for fans to watch on an on-demand replay basis. Viewers can watch the Championship live or on-demand with an All Event Pass ($9.99 per month) or on a per-event basis ($3.99 per event).
