CHARLOTTESVILLE – The Virginia baseball team plays its second game of 2007 against Richmond at 7:10 p.m. Tuesday at Davenport Field in Charlottesville. The sixth-ranked Cavaliers won the earlier meeting, 11-1, March 20 at Richmond.

Virginia (31-8, 11-6 ACC) went 2-1 last week. The Cavaliers opened with an 8-1 win at VCU Tuesday, then split two one-run games with Georgia Tech over the weekend, falling 2-1 in 11 innings Friday before rebounding with a 7-6 win Saturday. David Adams (Margate, Fla.) hit a walkoff three-run home run Saturday to lead the Cavaliers back for the victory.

Brandon Guyer (Herndon, Va.) continued his career-best hitting streak last week, pushing it to 24 games. He is batting .48 (43-96) during that time. It is the longest current streak in the ACC after North Carolina’s Dustin Ackley had his 28-game streak snapped Saturday vs. Duke.

Richmond enters with a 22-14 record after sweeping Temple at home in a three-game Atlantic 10 series over the weekend. The Spiders are led offensively by catcher Hank Coogan, who is hitting .368, while Joe Mahoney leads the team in home runs (8) and RBI (32). Richmond is guided by 23rd-year head coach Ron Atkins, who is 707-526-4 in his career.

Virginia holds a 75-58-1 lead in the all-time series and is 5-0 against the Spiders under head coach Brian O’Connor.

The Cavaliers travel to No. 13 Clemson this weekend for a key ACC series.
