CHARLOTTESVILLE – The Virginia women’s soccer program has announced that seven players have signed letters of intent to join the Cavalier program this fall. Katie Carr (Williamsburg, Va.), Sinead Farrelly (Havertown, Pa.), Colleen Flanagan (Downingtown, Pa.), Amy Hemenway (Charlottesville, Va.), Meghan Lenczyk (McLean, Va.), Lindsey Miller (Nashua, N.H.), and Kika Toulouse (Arlington, Va.) will form the first year class of the 2007 Virginia women’s soccer team.
The class includes two players with United States youth national team experience, three who are NSCAA All-Americans, and five are ranked among the top 150 recruits in the nation by SoccerBuzz Magazine.
“We are extremely excited about this group of student-athletes that will be joining us in the fall,” head coach Steve Swanson said. “We feel each of them will impact our program over the next four years and look forward to helping them develop as students, athletes and people during their time at Virginia. Hershey Strosberg, our recruiting coordinator, deserves most of the credit for helping put this class together, as he worked hard identifying and evaluating the players that make up this class. We filled specific needs in a number of positional areas and blending this talented group with our returning veterans gives us more depth throughout our team then at any other time since I arrived in 2000.”
These seven players will join 18 returning players, including nine starters, from last year’s squad. The 2006 Cavaliers went 12-8-2 and reached the round of 16 of the NCAA Tournament.
KATIE CARR – Defender/Midfielder – Williamsburg, Va. (Walsingham, Academy)
Member of the Virginia ODP and Region I ODP teams … was a six-year starter at Walsingham Academy, earning all-state honors five times … school record holder for career goals and assists, scoring 100 goals in her high school career … also a standout in basketball, where she scored 2,683 points, the second highest career point total in the history of Virginia girls high school basketball … top 150 recruit by SoccerBuzz Magazine.
SINEAD FARRELLY – Midfielder – Havertown, Pa. (Haverford H.S.)
Member of the United States U-20 National Team Pool… previously played for the U-17, U-16 and U-15 National Teams … 2006 NSCAA Youth All-American … 2006 All-Southeastern Pennsylvania, playing for Haverford High School … helped lead her ODP team to a National Championship in 2007 … five year veteran of the Region I ODP team … ranked as the nation’s No. 7 recruit by SoccerBuzz Magazine.
COLLEEN FLANAGAN – Defender – Downingtown, Pa. (Downingtown West H.S.)
Member of the United States U-17 National Team Pool in 2005 … veteran of the Region I ODP team … member of the 2006 U-17 ODP National Champions … 2006 All-State … 2004 & 2006 All-Southeastern Pennsylvania Team … three-time Philadelphia Inquirer All-Area team … helped Downingtown West to the 2004 and 2006 Pennsylvania State Championships … top 50 recruit by SoccerBuzz Magazine.
AMY HEMENWAY – Forward/Midfielder – Charlottesville, Va. (Charlottesville H.S.)
Member of the Virginia ODP team … 2005 & 2006 Class AA All-State … 2005 Jefferson District Player of the Year … three-time All-Central Virginia first team … three time All-Region II team … helped Charlottesville H.S. to the 2006 State Championship final.
MEGHAN LENCZYK – Forward – McLean, Va. (Langley H.S.)
2005 NSCAA All-American … veteran of the Region I and Virginia ODP teams … 2006 Washington Post first team All-Met … two-time first-team All-Region … three-time first-team All-District … 2005 honorable mention All-State … top 50 recruit by SoccerBuzz Magazine.
LINDSEY MILLER – Midfielder/Forward – Nashua, N.H. (Bishop Guertin H.S.)
2006 NSCAA High School All-American … 2006 NSCAA New Hampshire Player of the Year … Gatorade State Player of the Year … member of the Region I ODP team … four-time first team All-New Hampshire … top 150 recruit by SoccerBuzz Magazine.
KIKA TOULOUSE – Midfielder/Forward – Arlington, Va. (Bishop O’Connell H.S.)
NSCAA High School All-Region … 2006 second team Washington Post All-Met … two-time first team All-Conference … 2006 Washington Examiner All-Examiner first-team … has nine goals and ten assists her senior year.
