CHARLOTTESVILLE – The sixth-ranked Virginia baseball team visits No. 13 Clemson this weekend for a key three-game series at Dave Kingsmore Stadium. Both teams stand in second place in their respective ACC divisions. The teams play at 7:15 p.m. Friday, 7 p.m. Saturday and 1 p.m. Sunday. The first two games will be webcast by ACC Select.

Virginia (32-8, 11-6 ACC) won 12-5 Tuesday against Richmond. Mike Mitchell (Chesapeake, Va.) went 4-for-5 with three stolen bases and Greg Miclat (Concord, N.C.) went 2-for-3 with two stolen bases to set the single-season Virgina stolen bases record. John Scaglione (Palm Beach Gardens, Fla.), David Adams (Margate, Fla.) and Brandon Guyer (Herndon, Va.) each had two hits as part of the Cavaliers’ 16-hit attack. Guyer extended his career-best hitting streak to 25 games, the longest current hit streak in the ACC.

Casey Lambert was named to the NCBWA Stopper of the Year Midseason Watch List. He is one of 40 players on the list, which also includes four other closers from the ACC – Michael Seander (Duke), Eryk McConnell (NC State), Andrew Carignan (UNC) and Josh Ellis (Wake Forest).

The series figures to be dominated by pitching. The Virginia staff ranks second in the country with a 2.49 ERA, with Jacob Thompson (Danville, Va.) ranking seventh individually with a 1.32 ERA. The Tigers also have a solid pitching staff that boasts a 3.38 ERA.

Coming off a 2006 College World Series appearance, Clemson is 25-11 overall and 11-6 in the ACC after losing 4-2 Wednesday at No. 4 South Carolina. Brad Chalk leads the Tigers with a .416 batting average, while CU bats .287 overall as a team. Ryan Hinson leads a talented rotation with a 3-1 record and 2.28 ERA.

Clemson is guided by 14th-year head coach Jack Leggett. He is 633-270 at Clemson and 983-560 in 28 years as a head coach.
