The Virginia softball team travels to Tallahassee, Fla., for its final Atlantic Coast Conference road series of the season. The Cavaliers play a three-game series against Florida State over the weekend at JoAnne Graf Field. The series gets under way with a noon doubleheader on Saturday (April 21) and concludes with a noon game on Sunday (April 22).
UVa enters the Florida State series with a 15-31 overall record and a 1-14 mark in the Atlantic Coast Conference. The Cavaliers are coming off a doubleheader split with Longwood on Wednesday (April 18) at The Park in Charlottesville. Virginia won the first game 5-2, but dropped the second contest 6-2.
Florida State stands at 33-19 on the season and is 8-6 in ACC action. The Seminoles have won their last five games and are coming off a doubleheader sweep over Jacksonville on Tuesday (April 17).
The Seminoles lead the all-time series against Virginia 53-15. The Cavaliers have won only two of the last 19 meetings against Florida State. Last season, UVa split a pair of meetings against Florida State on April 9 in Charlottesville. The Cavaliers won the first game 1-0 and then lost the nightcap 8-5. Virginia has played the Seminoles 45 times in Tallahassee through the years and has won only eight of those contests.
“Florida State has a very talented pitching staff and exceptional team speed,” said UVa head coach Karen Johns. “Our team is looking forward to getting to Tallahassee and finding ways to get some ACC wins.”
The entire series will be broadcast on ACC Select (ACCSelect.com), in addition to gametracker on virginiasports.com.
