Virginia’s Kate Breslin Named Tewaaraton Trophy Nominee

Virginia women’s lacrosse player Kate Breslin has been named one of 17 nominees for the 2007 Tewaaraton Trophy, as announced by the Tewaaraton Award Foundation. The Tewaaraton Trophy is one of the most prestigious awards in women’s lacrosse and has been awarded annually to the top player in the nation since 2001. Of the 17 nominees, five finalists will be selected and a winner will be announced at an awards banquet on May 30.

Breslin leads the No. 6 Cavaliers in scoring with 45 goals and 22 assists, both career highs for the fourth-year. She ranks third in draw controls and has started all 16 games for the `Hoos, who stand at 13-3 heading into the ACC Tournament. Breslin has notched nine hat tricks on the year, including a six-goal outburst in the opener against Virginia Tech. She also has three games with three or more assists, including four in the upset of No. 2 Maryland.

The Cavaliers will compete in the ACC quarterfinals this Thursday as they face Boston College on Thursday, April 26 at 3:30 at Fetzer Field at North Carolina. The semifinals are slated for Friday evening and the ACC final is set for Sunday, April 29 at 1 p.m.
