The men’s and women’s track and field teams will compete at the 113th Penn Relays Carnival beginning Thursday, April 26. Both squads are fresh off top-half finishes at the ACC Championships held last weekend at the University of Maryland. Virginia will run a variety of relay events, along with individual performers across the board.

Slated to compete this coming weekend for the men are third-year David Lewis (Centreville, Va.), second-year Jeff McClurg (Chagrin Falls, Ohio), and first-year Eric Pickle (Knoxville, Tenn.). Lewis finished sixth last weekend in the ACC Decathlon, while McClurg finished seventh in the ACC pole vault competition with a jump of 16’2.75″. McClurg is only the fifth person in school history to jump over 16 feet as he now ranks fourth all-time at Virginia. Pickle placed eighth in the ACC discus throw as he threw a personal-best 147′ 1″ to partner with ACC discus champion Yemi Ayeni (Kendall Park, N.J.) in scoring 11 team points for the Cavaliers.

On the women’s side, ACC runner-up and NCAA regional qualifier Megan Briggs (Palmyra, Pa.) will compete in the javelin this weekend. Briggs placed second in her first-ever ACC meet, continuing a strong tradition of Cavalier javelin throwers. Joining her in the field will be All-ACC discus thrower Amy Bilmanis (Hughesville, Md.). Bilmanis tossed 157′ 8″, a season-best mark that qualified her for the NCAA Regional. Second-year Bianca Debartolo (Sydney, Australia) will also be competing coming off of her sixth-place finish in the ACC Heptathlon. DeBartolo moved up to seventh place all-time at Virginia with her score of 4,854 points last week. In the distance events, first-year Stephanie Garcia (South Riding, Va.) and fourth-year Janine Ricci (Maple Glen, Pa.) are slated to compete after notching fourth and fifth place finishes in the ACC steeplechase. Both Garcia and Ricci have already qualified for NCAA Regionals in the steeplechase, as they look to re-write the Virginia record-books once again this weekend.

Virginia is scheduled to compete next at the Cardinal Invitational at Stanford on May 5, followed by the IC4A/ECAC Championships at Princeton held May 10-12.
