Charlottesville, VA – The Virginia men’s golf team jumped out to the early lead at the Cavalier Classic being played at UVa’s Birdwood Golf Course. Playing in windy conditions, Virginia shot 4-over 292 during Saturday’s morning round. The second round is being played Saturday afternoon and the final 18 holes will take place Sunday.
UNC Greensboro is in second place after the first 18 holes at 295 followed by Richmond at 296 and Central Arkansas at 300.
Virginia’s Eamonn McLoughlin posted the team’s best first-round score with an even-par 72. He was in sixth place entering the second round. Conrad Von Borsig and Kyle Stough were tied for ninth at 73 while Greg Carlin was 13th at 74 and Daniel Kefale was 32nd at 78.
The Cavaliers also have two non-scoring players in the field. Brendan Flatley, playing in his first college tournament, shot 76 and was tied for 22nd. Daniel McGurk was 35th after carding a 79.
UNCG’s Drew Younts leads the field at 4-under 68 while Boston College’s Robert Reed was second at 69.
