Cavalier Women’s Tennis Receives NCAA Tournament Bid

CHARLOTTESVILLE – The Virginia women’s tennis team received an at-large selection to the 2007 NCAA Tournament and will travel to a regional in Clemson, S.C. The Cavaliers will play VCU in a first round match, while host Clemson plays Coastal Carolina.

The selection marks the second consecutive appearance in the tournament for the Cavaliers. Last year, Virginia competed at the Durham Regional, defeating Alabama in the opening round before falling to host Duke in the second round.

The Cavaliers are 11-11 on the season and are ranked No. 45 in the latest ITA rankings. VCU is 21-8 on the year and are currently ranked No. 29 nationally. Clemson is the tournament’s No. 7 seed, as the Tigers are 20-4 with a No. 6 national ranking. Coastal Carolina is 19-5 and earned an automatic bid by winning the Big South Conference.

The regional will take place either on Friday-Saturday, May 11-12 or Saturday-Sunday, May 12-13. Dates and times will be announced later.
