Men’s Lacrosse is Second Seed in NCAA Championship

Charlottesville, Va. – The University of Virginia has received a bid to the 2007 NCAA Men’s Lacrosse Championship and will host Delaware in the first round Sunday (May 13) at 5 pm at Klöckner Stadium. The game will be televised on ESPNU.

The third-ranked Cavaliers are 12-3 this season and have been ranked in the top 10 all season. They are the tournament’s second seed.This is Virginia’s 30th tournament appearance overall, second behind Johns Hopkins (36). Virginia won last year’s national championship and has received a bid in 14 of the last 15 seasons.

Delaware, currently ranked 17th in the coaches poll, gained an automatic bid with a 10-7 win over Towson in the championship game of the Colonial Athletic Association tournament. The Blue Hens have won their last five games and are 11-5 overall this season. They are making their first tournament appearance since 2005 and their fourth overall.

Virginia owns an 8-1 all-time record against Delaware. The Cavaliers gained a 17-10 win over the Blue Hens in the quarterfinals of the 1999 NCAA Championships in the most recent meeting of the two schools. Virginia went on to win its first national championship in 27 years that season.

The winner of this game faces the winner of the UMBC at Maryland game in the quarterfinals at Navy on Sunday (May 20).

Tickets are $6 for adults and $4 for youth 18-and-under and students of participating schools with a student ID. Tickets can be purchased in person at Bryant Hall ticket office or by calling the UVa Athletics Ticket Office at 800/542-8821. Tickets can also be purchased online at virginiasports.com. The Ticket Office encourages all fans to purchase and pick up their tickets in advance to avoid long ticket sales and Will Call lines on game day.
