No. 5 Virginia Baseball Makes First Trek to Boston College

CHARLOTTESVILLE – The No. 5 Virginia baseball team makes its first-ever trip to Boston College with a three-game series Thursday through Sunday at Shea Field in Chestnut Hill, Mass. The first pitch Thursday is at 2:30 p.m., with 1 p.m. starts scheduled for Friday and Saturday.

Virginia (39-13, 17-9 ACC) dropped an 11-7 contest Tuesday to Coastal Carolina. David Adams (Margate, Fla.) and Sean Doolittle (Tabernacle, N.J.) each had three hits in that contest. In ACC play last week, the Cavaliers lost two of three games to North Carolina State. Virginia enters league play this weekend a half-game behind first-place North Carolina in the ACC Coastal Division.

Boston College (24-25-1, 12-15 ACC) is tied with Wake Forest for the eighth and final ACC tournament position entering this series. The Eagles are led at the plate by Eric Campbell, who is hitting .356 with a team-high 20 doubles and 40 RBI. Johnny Ayers is right behind him with .345 batting average.On the mound, the Eagles have a 5.20 ERA. Kevin Boggan leads the starters with a 3.84 ERA.

Virginia and Boston College met for the first time last year, as the Cavaliers swept a three-game series in Charlottesville.

The Cavaliers will compete in the ACC Tournament next week in Jacksonville, Fla.
