RALEIGH, N.C. – Virginia first-year first baseman Kelly Haller (Leesburg, Va./Heritage) has been selected to the 22-member 2007 Louisville Slugger All-Southeast Region Second Team as voted by the region’s head softball coaches. Thirteen players were named to the All-Southeast Region First Team. With her selection to the All-Southeast Region team, Haller is eligible for All-America honors. The All-America teams will be announced during the Women’s College World Series in late May.

Haller, a 2007 All-ACC Second Team selection, concluded her rookie season with a team-high .409 (61-149) batting average, which ranks second among all ACC players. She is also third in the league in on-base percentage (.497), fifth in slugging percentage (.685), sixth in RBI per game (0.87, 47 in 54 games) and tied for eighth in total bases per game (1.89, 102 in 54 games). Haller led UVa in all the aforementioned categories as well as home runs (11), walks (24), sacrifice flies (2), multiple-hit games (17) and multiple-RBI games (12) while starting 54 contests. She was second on the team in doubles with eight. In ACC play, Haller hit .393 (22-56), which was fourth among all players.

Haller’s 11 home runs tie for the third most in a single season in school history. She was just two homers short of Kristen Dennis’ 2002 record of 13 and one shy of Sara Larquier’s 2003 rookie record of 12. Haller’s .409 batting average is the fourth highest in a single season by a Cavalier and her 47 RBI tie for the sixth highest single season total. Haller’s .685 slugging percentage in 2007 is the second highest in school history.

Haller is the first UVa freshman to garner All-Southeast Region honors since 1999 when Dennis was named to the second-team.

Virginia finished the 2007 season with a 17-39 overall record and was 1-20 in Atlantic Coast Conference play.
