CHARLOTTESVILLE – Former Virginia infielder Mark Reynolds (2002-04) was called up Tuesday by the Arizona Diamondbacks and made his Major League Baseball debut Wednesday night at Colorado.
Reynolds started at third base and went 2-for-3 in the game with a single, walk and two-run double in the Diamondbacks’ 5-3 loss. In the field, Reynolds started two double plays.
Reynolds was a 16th-round selection of the Diamondbacks in 2004. He is the second Virginia player to have been coached by Brian O’Connor to reach the majors, joining Ryan Zimmerman, who currently plays third base for the Washington Nationals.
