CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. – A school-record five Virginia baseball players have been named to the 2007 All-Atlantic Coast Conference Baseball Team, announced Monday by the league. Sean Doolittle (Tabernacle, N.J.), Brandon Guyer (Herndon, Va.) and Jacob Thompson (Danville, Va.) each were voted by the league’s coaches to the first team, while David Adams (Margate, Fla.) and Casey Lambert (Harrisonburg, Va.) were awarded second-team distinction. It marks the most All-ACC picks the program has had in one season, topping the high of four, set six times previously.

Doolittle (DH/Utility) earns his second-consecutive first-team nod. He also took second-team honors in 2005 and is just the fourth player in Virginia baseball history to be named All-ACC three times, joining Steve Sroba (1971-73), Dean Pallotta (1973-75) and Bill Narleski (1985-87). Doolittle is hitting .318 this year with seven homers and a team-high 52 RBI. On the mound, he is 7-3 with a 2.63 ERA.

Guyer (OF) is a first-time All-ACC honoree after hitting .376 during the regular season. That total ranks seventh-best in the ACC. He has a team-high 79 hits, has ripped seven home runs and driven in 46 runs. Guyer also has a team-high 19 doubles which gives him a school-record 53 for his career.

Thompson (starting pitcher) nabs his second All-ACC honor after taking second-team laurels last season. The right-hander has put up phenomenal numbers as Virginia’s Friday night starter this year, going 10-0 overall with a league-low 1.46 ERA. In 98 2/3 innings, he has surrendered just 67 hits, including nine extra-base hits. He also has struck out 93 batters and recorded two shutouts.

Adams (2B) grabs his first All-ACC award. He has surged of late to a .371 batting average with 75 hits, five home runs and 39 RBI. He also owns one of the Cavaliers’ key hits of 2007, a walk-off three-run home run in a 7-6 win over Georgia Tech April 14.

Lambert (relief pitcher) takes his first all-league award. He is 11-for-11 in save opportunities this year and owns an ACC-record 43 saves in his career. He boasts a minuscule 1.26 ERA and has allowed earned runs in just three of his 25 outings this year.

Atlantic Division champion Florida State earned three of the league’s top four honors as Tony Thomas, Jr. (Player of the Year), Bryan Henry (Pitcher of the Year) and Mike Martin (Coach of the Year) each won awards. North Carolina’s Dustin Ackley was the coaches’ choice as the ACC Freshman of the Year.

The Cavaliers begin ACC Championship play at 10 a.m. Wednesday against N.C. State.
