CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. – The Virginia baseball team has been awarded the No. 1 seed in the Charlottesville Regional, the NCAA announced Monday. The Cavaliers (43-14, 19-9 ACC) are joined by No. 2-seed Rutgers (41-19, 20-7 Big East), No. 3-seed and defending national champion Oregon State (38-17, 10-14 Pac-10) and No. 4-seed Lafayette (33-18, 17-3 Patriot) in the regional, which will take place June 1-4 at Davenport Field.

Virginia will meet Lafayette at 4 p.m. Friday, with the Rutgers-Oregon State game scheduled to follow at 8 p.m. The losers of the Friday games will battle at 1 p.m. Saturday in an elimination game, while the winners of the Friday games will play at 6 p.m. Saturday. A second elimination game will take place at 1 p.m. Sunday before the regional championship game at 6 p.m. If necessary, a second regional championship game would be contested at 6 p.m. Monday.

Fans can order tickets for the NCAA Regional online onthe UVa Athletics Tickets Web site and by phone through the Virginia Athletics Ticket Office at 800-542-UVA1 (8821) or 434-924-UVA1 (8821).

The Virginia Athletics Ticket Office will be closed Monday for Memorial Day, but tickets may be purchased online at www.virginiasports.com.

General Admission all-session ticket books are $40 and include admission to all games of the NCAA Regional tournament, and are subject to availability. General Admission seating is on the left field hillside and in the bleachers beyond the left field fence. All seating in the Grandstand is reserved.

All-tournament parking passes for the University Hall or John Paul Jones Arena lots are available in advance for $10. Game-day parking is $5 per day.

All regional ticket books will be available for pick up from Bryant Hall beginning May 30, or at the Davenport Field ticket windows beginning two hours prior to the first game on June 1.

Virginia will make its sixth appearance in the NCAA tournament and fourth consecutive (1972, 1985, 2004-07). The Cavaliers are playing host to a regional for the third time in the last four years.

Rutgers earned an automatic bid to the NCAA tournament after winning the Big East Conference tournament last week. Oregon State, coming off the school’s first national title in 2006, nabbed an at-large bid, while Lafayette earned an automatic bid after capturing the Patriot League tournament crown May 13.

The Cavaliers and Leopards have played 29 times previously, with Virginia holding a 20-9 series edge. The two programs have not played since 1989. Virginia and Rutgers have not matched up since 1962 (6-2 Rutgers in the series), while the Cavaliers have never played Oregon State.
