CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. – Four Virginia baseball players were selected in the Major League Baseball First-Year Player Draft Friday. Casey Lambert (Harrisonburg, Va.), Beau Seabury (Mount Vernon, Wash.), Mike Mitchell (Chesapeake, Va.) and Pat McAnaney (Syracuse, N.Y.) all were picked Friday.

It brings the Cavaliers’ 2007 draft total to six after Sean Doolittle (Tabernacle, N.J.) and Brandon Guyer (Herndon, Va.) were picked Thursday, marking the most draft picks Virginia has had in a single season. It tops the previous high of five from the 1993 draft.

Lambert was selected in the sixth round (187th overall) by the Chicago Cubs, joining Guyer, who was selected in the fifth round by the Cubs. He finished his career as the all-time saves leader in ACC history with 43. That total also ranks sixth in NCAA history. He also holds the top four single-season saves marks in school history. Lambert was honored with second-team All-ACC laurels this season.

Seabury was picked in the 13th round (402nd overall) by the Colorado Rockies. He played in all but four games this season and hit .269 while throwing out 35 percent of would-be basestealers. He also was named to the 2007 NCAA Charlottesville All-Regional Team.

Mitchell also went to Colorado as a 25th-round selection (762nd overall). He hit .299 in 2007 and stole 19 bases in 21 attempts. He finished his career with 47 stolen bases – tied for eighth all-time at Virginia.

McAnaney was selected by the Pittsburgh Pirates in the 38th round (1,139th overall). He had a solid season after bouncing back from a preseason injury, going 2-0 with a 3.34 ERA. McAnaney is 14-1 with a 2.45 ERA in his career with the Cavaliers.
