CHARLOTTESVILLE – A revised system is now in place for calls to the main telephone number (434/982-5000) for the Virginia athletics department. The goal of the new system is to handle in a more efficient manner the calls that come to the number during the day as well as calls after the normal workday hours of 8 a.m.-5 p.m. Monday through Friday.
With the new system, the 982-5000 line can be answered by as many as four different people during normal work hours. If no one is available to answer the line, it is answered automatically and there are 10 options for automatic call distribution. A caller can select the appropriate option and leave a voice mail message. Outside of 8 a.m.-5 p.m. on weekdays, calls will go directly to the automatic call distribution system.
