Head Coach Dave Leitao

On what Sean coming back brings to the team…
“My excitement is obvious, but it is more for him. It obviously sets up our ability as a program to continue to move forward with one of the best players in the country. Any coach would be happy about that. But more than that, I am happy for him that he is in a situation where he can continue to thrive and prepare for his life.”

On his thoughts during the process…
“Throughout the process, there are so many things that are said, most of them untrue or rumors. I equate it to a game. If you are down ten in the first half you don’t think you are going to lose and if you are up ten you don’t think you have the game won. It doesn’t make sense to have your feelings swayed one way or the other.”

On his role through the process…
“I tried to make sure that I remained a confidant for Sean and his family and not look at it with any level of selfishness. It was important to be stable and to be an information source. I just tried to encourage him as much as I could. Go after it. Chase it. If it is supposed to be, it will be.”

Senior Guard Sean Singletary

On his decision…
“I was blessed to be in a situation that would be positive for me either way. But I thought this was best for me and my family.”

On the prospects of next year’s team…
“I feel the sky is the limit for this team. We have a group of young guys that are eager to get to it and veterans that know what’s going on. If we can come together and get a good chemistry as a team, we will be fine next season.”

On if there was ever a time that he was leaning towards staying in the draft…
“I didn’t look at it like that. I just went out there and played every day. At the end of the process, on Sunday, we made the decision. I had to stay focused and I didn’t really get into all the draft talk that was going on.”

On his legacy at Virginia…
“It would be an honor (to be thought of as one of the best players in UVa history). I just take it day by day and try to better myself as a basketball player, as an individual, and as a student. At some point I will look back at my career, but right now I am not caught up on all of that.”

On getting his degree from Virginia…
“That played somewhat of a role in my decision. I felt like this part of my life wasn’t complete yet, so I wanted to come back and finish up.”
