Link, Kirkaldy Named to US National Developmental Team

VIRGINIA BEACH – Virginia’s Christina Kirkaldy and Mia Link were both named to the US National Developmental team Sunday (June 24) by US National Team Head Coach Lee Bodimeade at the conclusion of the US Field Hockey National Championships in Virginia Beach. Kirkaldy and her Midwest team finished second in the national championships while Link teamed with rising Both women are veterans of the US teams program; Kirkaldy trained with the team in California earlier this year while Link is a former US National Champion and was a member of the US Junior World Cup team.

Kirkaldy and the Midwest side took the lead on top-seeded Pennsylvania/New Jersey, but PA/NJ rattled off the next six goals to win 6-1. In the third place game, a Lauren Crandall goal helped Link and teammate Traci Ragukas and the rest of the Maryland/Virginia team to take third with a 1-0 win over Kaitlyn Hiltz and the rest of the South team.

Kirkaldy was an assistant coach and Link was a starter for Virginia in the 2006 season; the Cavaliers advanced to the quarterfinals of the NCAA Championships, the deepest run in the tournament since 2001.
