UVa Publications Earn Six CoSIDA Awards

SAN DIEGO, Calif. – Members of the Virginia Athletics Media Relations Department were honored on July 3 at the 2007 College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) Workshop, capturing six awards for Excellence in Publications.

The men’s and women’s track and field/cross country media guide, written by Chip Rogers and David Vitto and designed by Matt Riley, captured Best Cover in the Nation in the multi-sport guide category. The wrestling media guide, produced by Kerwin Lonzo and Riley, finished Third in the Nation. The Cavalier field hockey guide, produced by Rogers and Riley, was Fourth in the Nation in the single sport guide category.

The Cavalier football media guide, written and designed by Michael Colley, Cathy Bongiovi, and Riley, finished 14th nationally and Best in the District. The softball media guide, written by Bill Hurd and designed by Lainie Guiddy, was Second in the District. The women’s basketball media guide, produced by Bongiovi, Guiddy, and Riley, finished 10th nationally and Third in the District.

The publication awards are the most for the department in school history. Last year, UVa captured three publication awards, recognizing the men’s basketball, men’s golf, and women’s soccer media guides.

Additionally, Andy Fledderjohann, who joined the UVa staff in the spring, won Best in the District honors for the baseball poster that he produced for Marshall. Katharine Palmer, who joined the Virginia staff in June, captured Best in the Nation and Best Cover honors for the women’s basketball game programs and Best in the District for the women’s basketball media guide while at Wisconsin last season.
