CHARLOTTESVILLE – Two members of the Virginia women’s soccer team were named to the preseason Missouri Athletic Club Hermann Trophy Watch List Wednesday by the National Soccer Coaches Association of America. Junior defender Nikki Krzysik (Clifton, N.J.) and junior forward Jess Rostedt (Kent, Ohio) were among the 46 players recognized.
Rostedt led the Cavaliers in scoring last season with nine goals and three assists for 21 points. She accumulated those numbers despite missing the first four games of the year while playing for the United States at the U-20 World Championships in Russia. She was a third-team NSCAA All-American and a first-team All-ACC selection last year.
In 2006, Krzysik had one assist while starting the final 18 games of the season after missing the first four playing for the United States U-20 team in Russia. She was a second-team All-ACC selection last season and a second-team NSCAA All-Mid Atlantic Region honoree.
Virginia is one of 13 schools to have multiple players on the list.
The Cavaliers make their home debut on Sunday, Aug. 26 as they host Connecticut in an exhibition game at Klöckner Stadium. Virginia opens the regular season at home on Friday, Aug. 31 against Delaware.
