Virginia Ranked No. 6 in Preseason Poll

CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. – The Virginia men’s soccer team is ranked No. 6 nationally in the College Soccer News preseason poll.

UCLA earned the top spot, followed by Duke and defending national champion UC Santa Barbara. Wake Forest was fourth, and Santa Clara was fifth.

Other ACC schools ranked among the nation’s top 30 include Maryland at No. 9 and Clemson at No. 22.

Virginia’s incoming freshmen have also been ranked third nationally among the best recruiting classes. Duke received top honors, followed by Indiana.

The Cavaliers host South Florida in exhibition action at Klöckner Stadium on Saturday, August 25. The season opener is slated for Friday, August 31 against Columbia at 7:30 p.m. at Klöckner Stadium.

Last season, the Cavaliers finished with a 17-4-1 overall record and reached the NCAA College Cup. Fifteen players, including six starters, return from that squad.
