Virginia Ranked No. 5 in Preseason Coaches Poll

CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. – The Virginia men’s soccer team is ranked No. 5 nationally in the preseason National Soccer Coaches Association of America poll.

Defending national champion UC Santa Barbara earned the top spot, followed by UCLA and Wake Forest. Duke was fourth, and Santa Clara was sixth.

Other ACC schools ranked among the nation’s top 25 include Maryland at No. 9, and Clemson at No. 12, and North Carolina at No. 16.

The Cavaliers travel to Virginia Commonwealth for an exhibition game on Sunday, August 19 at 7 p.m.

UVa hosts South Florida in exhibition action at Klöckner Stadium on Saturday, August 25. The season opener is slated for Friday, August 31 against Columbia at 7:30 p.m. at Klöckner Stadium.

Last season, the Cavaliers finished with a 17-4-1 overall record and reached the NCAA College Cup. Fifteen players, including six starters, return from that squad.
