Additional Cavalier Media Coverage Set to Kick Off

Charlottesville, Va. – The start of Virginia’s 2007 football season is a week away and Cavalier fans will have opportunities each week during the season to get an inside look at UVa football.

As part of their expanded preseason coverage, the Gray Television stations (WCAV-CBS19, WVAW-ABC16, and WAHU-FOX27) in Charlottesville, the official flagship stations of Virginia Athletics, are airing the preview show “Cavalier Countdown to Kickoff.” The 30-minute show airs this Saturday (Aug. 25) at 12:30 p.m. on WAHU FOX27 (Comcast Channel 9) and at 4:00 p.m. on MyCville TV (Comcast Channel 2). The final two airings of the show are scheduled for Sunday (Aug. 26) at 11:30 p.m. on WCAV-CBS19 (Comcast Channel 6) and on Sept. 1 at 1:00 p.m. on WVAW-ABC16.

The Cavalier Call-In radio show with UVa head football coach Al Groh returns for another season beginning Monday (Aug. 27). Mac McDonald, the Voice of the Cavaliers, hosts the show as coach Groh takes listeners calls every week during the season. The live radio show takes place Monday nights from 7:06-8:00 p.m. on the Virginia Sports Network and www.virginiasports.com.

This fall also marks the beginning of the third season of Cavalier Sports Weekly, a half-hour television program featuring highlights of Virginia athletic events, student-athlete profiles, behind-the-scenes footage and interesting feature stories. The program is produced and distributed by Virginia Sports Properties and the athletics department’s Video Services staff. It runs for 31 weeks beginning Sept. 2. WTEM Sports Talk 980 radio in the Northern Virginia and Washington, D.C., area will join the Virginia Sports Network for the Cavaliers’ first two football games this season. The Cavaliers play at Wyoming on Sept. 1 (2:00 p.m. Eastern Time) and host Duke on Sept. 8 (noon).

Coach Groh will also appear weekly on Comcast SportsNet in the mid-Atlantic region in their “Coaches Talkback” segment every Thursday night beginning Sept. 6.
