Today’s Game: The Cavaliers open the season at home for the seventh time in the past eight years when they host Columbia Friday. The game marks the first time since 1997 that the team hasn’t opened the season with a tournament.

About the Cavaliers: Virginia had its preseason schedule altered several times due to weather, but finally played an exhibition game on Sunday, downing South Florida 1-0. Jeremy Barlow scored for the Cavaliers.

About the Lions: Columbia is also opening its 2007 season on Friday. Last week, the Lions topped Fordham 1-0 in an exhibition game. Columbia returns 14 letterwinners from last year’s squad that finished with a 7-8-2 record.

Up Next: Virginia will host Richmond on Sunday at 5 p.m. The game follows the Cavalier women’s team playing West Virginia at 2 p.m. Tickets are are $9 for reserved seats, $7 for adult general admission and $5 for youth, senior, and faculty/staff general admission.
