CHARLOTTESVILLE – Virginia women’s soccer player Becky Sauerbrunn was named to two preseason All-America teams this week. The senior defender was honored by Soccer America and MLS Magazine.
Sauerbrunn was one of four defenders on the 11-player preseason All-America squad named by MLS Magazine on Wednesday. The honors are the first given by the publication, which started this summer. Soccer America named its annual preseason accolades on Thursday, with Sauerbrunn among the seven defenders named to the 23-player list.
A second-team All-American and first-team All-ACC selection last season, Sauerbrunn has anchored the Cavalier defense over her first three seasons, playing every minute of every game.
The Cavaliers open the 2007 season on Friday as they host Delaware. Match time at Klöckner Stadium is at 5 p.m. The game is the first of a Virginia soccer doubleheader, with the men’s team hosting Columbia at 7:30 p.m.
