Women’s Soccer Opens 2007 Season Friday at Home Against Delaware

Today’s Game: The Cavaliers open the season at home for the seventh consecutive year on Friday when they host Delaware. Virginia is undefeated (7-0-0) in season openers under Steve Swanson, outscoring opponents 30-0 in those contests.

About the Cavaliers: Virginia is opening the 2007 season Friday against Delaware. The Cavaliers are coming off a pair of exhibition losses against top 15 competiton, falling 3-1 to Notre Dame and 2-1 to Connecticut. Jess Rostedt and Meghan Lenczyk scored goals for UVa during the preseason.

About the Blue Hens: Delaware is also opening its 2007 season on Friday. Last week, the Blue Hens lost an exhibition game at Penn State 2-0. In 2006, Delaware finished with a 8-8-3 record (3-7-1 in the CAA). This year, they were eighth in the preseason CAA poll.
