CHARLOTTESVILLE The No. 3 ranked Virginia men’s soccer team posted its first come-from-behind victory of the season on Wednesday, topping Campbell 2-1 at Klckner Stadium. The Cavaliers got goals from Neil Barlow (Langley, Va.) and Yannick Reyering (Mettingen, Germany) to record their fifth win of the season.

“I thought we turned the pressure up in the second half,” said head coach George Gelnovatch. “I felt it was just a matter of time before we got the go-ahead goal, whether that was in regulation or in overtime. This game was a chance for some guys who don’t normally start to get some minutes and for our guys who normally go a full 90 to rest some. Give Campbell a lot of credit. They are a great team and had a game plan that they executed well.”

The Camels (3-2-0) jumped out to a 1-0 lead in the 12th minute of play. Josh Elliott’s shot rang off the crossbar, but Khalil Johnson was in position to put home the rebound. It marked the first goal the Cavaliers (5-1-0) had allowed at home this year. Virginia equalized in the 26th minute as Matt Ayotte (Midlothian, Va,) sent a ball into the box that bounced right to Barlow, who turned and fired it in for his third goal of the season.

The Cavaliers pressured the Campbell defensive end for the entire second half, but the game remained tied until the final 10 minutes. In the 83rd minute, Campbell was whistled for a hand ball in the box and Reyering converted the penalty kick to give Virginia the lead. It was Reyering’s fourth goal of the season and proved to be his third game-winning goal of the year.

In addition to outshooting Campbell 19-2, the Cavaliers had a 13-1 corner kick advantage. Freshman Dan Louisignau (Wilmington, Del.) made his first career start in net for Virginia and picked up the win. Aaron Johnson made five saves in goal for Cambell.

Virginia will open ACC play on Saturday as it travels to NC State. Game time at Method Road Stadium in Raleigh is set for 2 p.m.
