Sean Singletary Named To NABC All-District 5 Team

KANSAS CITY, Mo.Virginia senior guard Sean Singletary (Philadelphia, Pa./The William Penn Charter School) is a first-team member of the 2008 National Association of Basketball Coaches (NABC) Division I All-District 5 Team. It’s the second consecutive season Singletary has earned the honor.

Members of the NABC selected the association’s 15 all-district teams.

Joining Singletary as first-team selections on the NABC’s All-District 5 Team are Stephen Curry (Davidson), Tyler Hansbrough (North Carolina), Ty Lawson (North Carolina) and DeMarcus Nelson (Duke). Selected to the second team were James Gist (Maryland), Arizona Reid (High Point), K.C. Rivers (Clemson), Kyle Singler (Duke) and Greivis Vasquez (Maryland).

Singletary, a Virginia co-captain for the third consecutive year, is averaging 19.7 points, 5.8 assists and 3.9 rebounds a game this season. He has scored at least 20 points in a game 13 times this season, including a career-high 41 points at Miami on March 1, and is shooting 84.9 percent (152-179) from the free throw line. Singletary ranks in the top 10 in Virginia men’s basketball history in six different career categories including steals (second, 191), assists (third, 541), three-point field goals made (fourth, 213), free throws made (fifth, 536), scoring (sixth, 1,957 points) and field goals made (tenth, 604).

Singletary is a finalist for the Bob Cousy Award presented by The Hartford and the Lowe’s Senior CLASS Award. He is also one of 30 players named to the midseason lists as candidates for the John R. Wooden Award and the Naismith Trophy presented by AT&T.

The 150 players named to the 15 all-district teams are now eligible for the NABC Division I All-America teams that will be announced at the conclusion of the 2007-08 regular season.
