ST. LOUIS, Mo.Virginia senior guard Sean Singletary (Philadelphia, Pa./The William Penn Charter School) is a member of the 2008 U.S. Basketball Writers Association (USBWA) All-District III Team. It’s the third consecutive season Singletary has earned the honor.
Members of the USBWA selected the association’s nine all-district teams.
Joining Singletary on the USBWA’s All-District III Team are Stephen Curry (Davidson), Wayne Ellington (North Carolina), James Gist (Maryland), Cliff Hammonds (Clemson), Tyler Hansbrough (North Carolina), Kyle Hines (UNC Greensboro), DeMarcus Nelson (Duke), Kyle Singler (Duke) and Greivis Vasquez (Maryland).
Singletary earned first-team All-Atlantic Coast Conference honors for the third consecutive season on Monday (March 10). He joins Ralph Sampson (1981-83) and Bryant Stith (1990-92) as the only Virginia players to be named first-team All-ACC three times.
A three-time team co-captain, Singletary ranks in the top 10 in Virginia men’s basketball history in six different career categories. On Sunday (March 9) he became the fifth UVa player to score 2,000 career points. He ranks second in steals (192), third in assists (556), fourth in three-point field goals made (216), fourth in free throws made (550), fifth in scoring (2,002 points) and ninth in field goals made (618).
Singletary is one of just three players in ACC history to have 2,000 career points, 500 career assists and 400 career rebounds. He has scored in double figures in his last 51 games. Singletary is averaging 19.9 points, 5.9 assists and 3.9 rebounds a game this season. He scored a career-high 41 points at Miami on March 1 and is averaging 21.5 points a game in ACC games.
Singletary ranks second in the ACC this season in assists, third in scoring, fifth in free throw percentage (.856, 166-194), sixth in minutes played (990, 34.14 mpg.) and seventh in steals (52, 1.79 spg.).
