CHARLOTTESVILLEThe Virginia men’s basketball team plays Richmond in the first round of the inaugural 16-team College Basketball Invitational Tournament at John Paul Jones Arena on Tuesday (March 18). The game is scheduled to begin at 7 p.m. and will be televised by Fox College Sports.
Virginia and Richmond have met 87 times with the Cavaliers compiling a 51-36 record against the Spiders. The teams last met during the 2005-06 season with UVa winning 59-43 at Richmond.
The Cavaliers enter the game with an overall record of 15-15 after losing to Georgia Tech 94-76 in the opening round of the Atlantic Coast Conference Tournament last Thursday (March 13). UVa has won four of its last seven games.
It is Virginia’s 29th postseason appearance (16 NCAA, 12 NIT) and the third consecutive season the Cavaliers have played in a postseason tournament. UVa played in the NIT in 2006 and the NCAA Tournament last season.
Richmond is a member of the Atlantic 10 Conference and has an overall record of 16-14, including a 9-7 record in the conference.
Reserved seat tickets for the game cost $10 and tickets are $5 for UVa students. There is a $5 charge for parking.

Tickets may be purchased by telephone or in person through the Virginia athletics ticket office beginning at 9 a.m. on Monday. The ticket office is located in Bryant Hall at Scott Stadium and may be reached by calling 1-800-542-UVA1 between 9 a.m. and 5 p.m.
Donors to the Virginia Athletics Foundation will have access first-come first-served to sections 112, 113 and 114 at John Paul Jones Arena through Monday.
The winner of the Virginia-Richmond game will play the winner of a first round game between Old Dominion and Rider on March 24 in the tournament quarterfinals.
