Spring football starts Friday

The Virginia football team opens spring practice Friday afternoon with the first of 15 workout sessions.

Cavalier fans will have three opportunities during the spring to watch the team begin its preparations for the 2008 season. Sunday afternoon practices on March 30 and April 6 are open to fans and media. Practices are held on the football practice fields adjacent to the McCue Center. Exact starting times will be announced later.

The Cavaliers conclude spring practice with their annual Spring Football Festival at Scott Stadium on April 12. Gates open at noon with fun activities for fans of all ages in the North End Zone and on the field. The Spring Game is scheduled to begin at 2 p.m. Admission and parking are free.

Head coach Al Groh and his staff welcome 33 returning lettermen, including 10 starters, for the spring. The Cavaliers finished with a 9-4 record last season and open the 2008 season at home on Aug. 30 against Southern California.
