Day four of the 2008 United States Olympic Trials continued Wednesday in Omaha, Neb.Virginia is being represented by 35 swimmers, including 25 current members, at the event. Ryan Hurley became the first Cavaliers swimmer to advance into a final and will be one of eight to swim in the 200 breast Thursday.

Hurley and teammate PJ Sullivan both advanced to the semifinals of the 200 breast. Hurley posted a time of 2:12.82 in the heat race to finish fifth overall while Sullivan touched at 2:15.25 to place 14th. In the semis, Hurley clocked a mark of 2:12.86, good enough for a seventh-place finish and a spot in the finals. Meanwhile, Sullivan finished 13th in the semis with a mark of 2:16.40.
In the men’s 100 free, Scot Robison (50.81) and Matt McLean (50.81) finished 62nd and 63rd, respectively. John Azar also placed 73rd overall (2:05.22). Additionally, newcomer Peter Geissinger was 115th with a time of 52.26.
In the women’s 200 fly, Liz Shaw was 25th overall, touching at 2:13.82. Claire Crippen finished 72nd (2:17.50) and Megan Evo placed 75th (2:17.71).
Day five of the Olympic Trials continues Thursday with the final of the men’s 200 breast, the men’s 200 IM and the women’s 200 breast.
