CHARLOTTESVILLE Virginia women’s soccer sophomore forward Meghan Lenczyk (McLean, Va.) received a pair of honors on Tuesday as she was named the ACC Player of the Week and the Soccer America National Player of the Week.

Lenczyk led the Cavaliers to a pair of road victories last week to open ACC play, downing No. 8 Florida State 1-0 and Miami 2-0. In both games, Lenczyk scored the game-winning goal and leads the team with eight goals and four game-winning goals this season.

The ACC Player of the Week honor is the first of Lenczyk’s career and is the first for a Cavalier this season. She also becomes just the second Cavalier to ever be named Soccer America National Player of the Week, joining Shannon Foley who earned the award last season.

Senior defender Alli Fries (Dublin, Ohio) also received national accolades on Tuesday, being named to the Soccer Buzz Magazine Team of the Week. Last week she helped the Cavalier defense post shutouts of the Seminoles and Hurricanes and scored her second goal of the season at Miami.

The Cavaliers return home on Thursday when they host NC State in their ACC home opener. Game time at Klckner Stadium is slated for 7 p.m.
