DE Jason Fuller made his first appearance of the season today. He finished with one tackle.
Wake Forest’s touchdown on its first possession of the game marks the fifth game in a row Virginia allowed the opposition to score the first time it had the ball. It is also the fourth game in a row the score has been a touchdown.
Rodney McLeod replaced Kevin Ogletree on the kickoff return team and had the first return of his career.
Jimmy Howell had a 50+-yard punt for the second game in a row. He finished with two punts of at least 50 yards after coming into the game with two all season.
Kevin Ogletree extended his streak to 22 consecutive games with at least one reception, tied as the sixth-longest streak in school history with Germane Crowell (1996-97), Heath Miller (2002-04) and Alvin Pearman (2003-04). Patrick Jeffers holds the school record with a catch in 31 games in a row from 1993-95.
Ogletree has caught at least two passes in every game in his 22-game streak. That is the second-longest streak with at least two receptions in school history; Billy McMullen had a 25-game streak with at least two receptions from 2000-02.
Ogletree caught six passes today and now has 50 receptions this season, his second season with at least 50. He is just the second player in Virginia history to catch as many as 50 passes in two different seasons; Billy McMullen did it in 2001 (83) and 2002 (69).
WR Cary Koch finished with 73 yards receiving, his most at Virginia. While at Tulane in 2005 he had 102 yards in a game against Tulsa. His six catches are a career-high high. He had six receptions while at Tulane against Rice and Tulsa.
Clint Sintim was in on his 13th sack of the season (9 solos, 4 assisted), the fifth-most in a season in school history. His 13 sacks are the most ever by a UVa linebacker.
QB Marc Verica threw for a career-high 279 yards today, the sixth game in a row he has passed for at least 200 yards. He is only the second QB in UVa history with at least six 200-yard games in a row. Matt Schaub had six in a row in 2003.
John Phillips now has 46 receptions this season, tied for 10th in ACC history for tight end receptions in a season and tied for second most in UVa history by a tight end. Former Cavalier All-American Heath Miller caught a record 70 passes in 2003 from his tight end position.
This is the first time Virginia has lost in Winston-Salem since losing to the Demon Deacons 38-34 in 1983. Current UVa head coach Al Groh was Wake Forest’s head coach that game.
