Pensacola, FL The Virginia men’s golf team started its spring season in strong fashion Monday by tying for first place after the opening 36 holes of the Argonaut Invitational in Pensacola, Fla. The Cavaliers shot 4-over 292 during the morning round and 1-under 287 during the afternoon to finish the day at 3-over 579. Liberty also shot 579 in the 11-team tournament that concludes Tuesday.
Virginia was led by Will Collins who is tied for second overall at 3-under 141. He opened with a round of 73 and followed that up with a season best of 4-under 68. Kyle Stough shot 75 and 71 to join Collins near the top of the leaderboard in ninth place at 2-over 146.
Steven Rojas and Ben Kohles are tied for 12th place at 3-over 147. Conrad Von Borsig rounds out the UVa scoring players in 29th place at 6-over 150. Cole Willcox, a non-scorer, playing in his first tournament as a Cavalier since transferring from Kentucky, is also in 29th place at 150.
Air Force’s Tom Whitney owns a six-shot lead in stroke play at 9-under 135.
