CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. Virginia softball players Sarah Tacke and Karla Wilburn were named the Atlantic Coast Conference player and pitcher of the week, respectively, the league office announced Monday. The Cavaliers are coming off two victories over the weekend at home against George Washington.
Tacke, a redshirt junior from Merced, Calif., hit. 800 in two games against the Colonials, going 4-of-5 at the plate with two triples and two home runs. She finished the afternoon with a whopping 10 RBI as Virginia knocked off George Washington 10-0 and 9-1.
Wilburn, a Del Mar, Calif., native, matched her win total from the 2008 season, earning victory No. 9 in the circle against the Colonials. In her fourth shutout, Wilburn allowed just four hits. She finished with eight strikeouts and did not walk a single batter.
Virginia’s doubleheader at George Mason Tuesday has been cancelled because of inclement weather in the area. The Cavaliers play host to Rider at 1 p.m. Saturday in a doubleheader at The Park.
