CHARLOTTESVILLE Virginia’s Monica Wright and Lyndra Littles were named to the All-Atlantic Coast Conference first team, while Aisha Mohammed earned honorable mention honors, the conference announced Monday.

It marks the eighth time in school history that two Cavaliers have been named to the first team in the same year. The last pair was in 1996 (Wendy Palmer and Tora Suber).

The teams were voted on by the 45 members of the ACC’s Blue Ribbon Panel, which was formed last year and includes members of the media as well as ACC head coaches.

Wright (Woodbridge, Va.) and Littles (Washington, D.C.) were joined on the first team by Maryland’s Marissa Coleman and Kristi Toliver, and Duke’s Chante Black.

Wright leads the conference and ranks ninth in the nation in scoring at 21.1 points per game and is a candidate for the Wooden Award, the Wade Trophy and Naismith Trophy. The 5-11 junior ranks among the ACC’s top-20 leaders in rebounding, assists and free throw percentage.

Littles missed nine games during the fall semester, but her 21.4 points per game scoring average would have led the conference had she played in the required 75 percent of her team’s games. She returned in time to make her presence felt in conference play, averaging 22.7 points in 14 ACC games. The 6-1 senior also contributes 6.3 rebounds per game.

Mohammed, a 6-3 center from Lagos, Nigeria, nearly averaged a double-double through the regular season and ended with 13.2 points and 9.9 rebounds per game. She posted 12 double-doubles throughout the season to make her career total 26.

Virginia faces Virginia Tech in the opening round of the 2009 ACC Tournament. Tip-off from the Greensboro Coliseum on Thursday, March 5, in Greensboro, N.C. is 8 p.m. and the game will be streamed live free of charge by ACC Select.
