GREENSBORO, N.C. Virginia freshman guard Sylven Landesberg (Flushing, N.Y.) is a unanimous selection to the 2009 ACC All-Freshman Team, announced Monday. In addition, Landesberg received honorable mention All-ACC accolades.
Landesberg becomes the eighth Cavalier to be named to the All-Freshman Team. He joins Harold Deane (1994), Curtis Staples (1995), Courtney Alexander (1996), Chris Williams (1999), Travis Watson (2000), J.R. Reynolds (2004) and Sean Singletary (2005).
Joining Landesberg on the 2009 ACC All-Freshman team are Wake Forest’s Al-Farouq Aminu (also a unanimous selection), Georgia Tech’s Iman Shumpert, Florida State’s Solomon Alabi and North Carolina’s Ed Davis.
Landesberg leads ACC freshmen in scoring (16.8 ppg) and minutes played (34.1 mpg). He is ranked third among rookies in rebounding (6.0 per game) and assists (2.7 per game). Landesberg was named ACC Rookie of the Week six times this season, a total that is tied for third in conference history.
The ACC Player of the Year, Rookie of the Year. Coach of the Year and Defensive Player of the Year will be announced on Tuesday.
