CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. The Virginia softball team (15-5) continues its homestand with a 2 p.m. doubleheader Tuesday against George Washington at The Park. The contest is a rescheduled game from a cancellation on March 1. The Cavaliers are looking to build on their eight game winning streak which includes an unblemished 6-0 record at home.
Virginia is coming off four wins over the weekend, sweeping doubleheaders with Rider and Lafayette. Redshirt junior Sarah Tacke was named the ACC Player of Week after hitting .818 over the weekend. She was 9-for-11 at the plate including two doubles, two triples and her sixth home run of the season. Lauren McCaskey boosted her season average, hitting .625 over the team’s four games.
On the season, redshirt sophomore Nicole Koren continues to lead Virginia at the plate. Koren s hitting .481 and leads the team with 26 hits, including seven home runs, which also leads the conference. Tacke’s 30 RBI are an ACC-best, as are her four triples, .545 on-base percentage and 1.000 slugging percentage.
George Washington is 5-7 on the season that includes a 1-4 road record. Katie Terrazas leads the Colonials with a .281 batting average, nine hits, including three doubles, and five RBI. Lauren Wilson adds a .222 average and is second with six hits and four RBI.
The Cavaliers and Colonials met in a doubleheader back on Feb. 28 with Virginia winning both games, 10-0 and 9-1. In the all-time series, the Cavaliers hold a 4-0 advantage.
