No. 4 UVa Women’s Golfers Open Spring Season at LSU

Charlottesville, VA After rocketing up the college golf standings to finish the fall season ranked No. 4, the Virginia women’s golf team opens the spring portion of its schedule Friday at the LSU Golf Class at the University Club in Baton Rouge (par 72, 6,424 yards).

Tee times on Friday and Saturday run from 8 a.m. CDT through 10:06 and a shotgun start at 8:30 a.m. will be used for Sunday’s final round. There will be 18 teams and six individuals playing in the event.

This year’s field includes No. 11 LSU, No. 22 Arkansas, College of Charleston, Colorado, Furman, Kentucky, No. 19 Louisville, Mississippi, Mississippi State, No. 15 North Carolina, NC State, UNC Wilmington, No. 26 Notre Dame, South Carolina, TCU, Tulane and No. 7 Wake Forest.

Virginia’s lineup will feature Whitney Neuhauser, Jennie Arseneault, Lene Krog, Calle Nielson and Joy Kim. Kristen Simpson will play as a non-scoring individual.

Neuhauser is currently ranked No. 5 in the Golfweek standings and leads the Cavaliers with a 72.14 stroke average. Arseneault is ranked No. 17 and has a 73.00 stroke average. Nielson is the third Cavalier listed in the top-50, ranking No. 48. Krog returns to the lineup after having knee surgery last fall that kept her out of two tournaments.

Last fall the Cavaliers finished no worst than fourth in five tournaments, posting runner-up finishes at The Derby (Auburn) and the stroke play portion of the NGCA Match Play Championship. UVa opened the fall by placing third of 15 teams at The Fall Preview.
