CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. – The No. 4 Virginia women’s lacrosse team heads to Chapel Hill, N.C., this Saturday for an Atlantic Coast Conference contest against No. 9 North Carolina. The game will begin at noon and will be webcast by ACC Select, with live stats available on VirginiaSports.com.
The Cavaliers (5-1, 1-1 ACC) enter the contest coming off a come-from-behind overtime victory over Penn State on Sunday. Virginia rallied from down six, at 11-5, to score seven unanswered goals, including one from senior All-American Jenny Hauser with 15 seconds remaining in regulation to push the game into overtime, before freshman Julie Gardner scored the game-winner with 50 seconds on the clock.
Senior All-American Ashley McCulloch leads the Cavaliers this season, ranking fourth nationally with 15 assists and fifth nationally with 30 points, while senior All-American Blair Weymouth has notched a team-best 19 goals.
Junior Brittany Kalkstein ranks fifth in the nation in draw controls, winning a team-high 26, while classmate Kaitlin Duff is tied for ninth on the national list, causing 16 turnovers.
North Carolina (4-2, 0-0 ACC) is coming off a 12-6 win over Denver on Monday in Colorado, and is playing in its first ACC contest this season. Jenn Russell and Corey Donohoe lead the Tar Heels with 10 goals each, while Megan Bosica heads the team with 14 points on eight goals and six assists.
Virginia holds a one-game advantage over the Tar Heels in the all-time series, 11-10. The Cavaliers and Tar Heels split the two meetings last year, with the Cavaliers winning the regular season match-up, 16-5, before being upset in the first round of the NCAA Tournament, 11-7.
In Chapel Hill, Virginia has won three of the seven contests.
The Cavaliers will return to action on Tuesday, hosting in-state rival William & Mary at 7 p.m., in Klckner Stadium.
