CHARLOTTESVILLE The Virginia women’s basketball team earned an at-large berth as a No. 5 seed to the 2009 NCAA Tournament and will face No. 12 seed Marist in Los Angeles in the first round on Saturday, March 21, at approximately 7:30 p.m. Pacific Time. The game will be televised on ESPN2.
The Cavaliers enter the tournament with a 23-9 overall record and are ranked No. 22/24 in the national polls.
The other game at the first round site features No. 4 seed California vs. No. 13 seed Fresno State. The second-round matchup takes place on Monday, March 23. The games will be played at the Galen Center on the campus of the University of Southern California, with the second-round winner advancing to the Trenton Regional.
Virginia has an all-time record of 32-22 in the NCAA Tournament and advanced to the second round last season. The Cavaliers and Marist have never met in women’s basketball action.
