Cavaliers Host No. 9 Princeton Saturday

CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. – The No. 7 Virginia women’s lacrosse team will host No. 9 Princeton on Saturday at Klckner Stadium. Opening draw is scheduled for 1 p.m., with live stats available on VirginiaSports.com and live video available on ACCSelect.com.

Both teams enter the contest coming off a win, with Princeton defeating Penn State, 9-7, in its most recent contest, while the Cavaliers escaped with a 10-9 overtime victory over William & Mary on Tuesday.

The Cavaliers (6-2) are led by their trio of senior All-Americans, Ashley McCulloch, Blair Weymouth and Jenny Hauser. McCulloch leads the team with 35 points scoring 19 goals and dishing out a team-best 16 assists. Weymouth tops the team in goals, tallying 24, while Hauser has 16 goals and seven assists.

Junior Kaitlin Duff leads the midfield with 19 ground balls and 19 caused turnovers, while classmate Brittany Kalkstein has won 32 draw controls.

Princeton (4-1) are led by Kristin Morrison’s 10 goals, while Christine Casaceli has nine goals and five assists for a team-high 14 points. Casaceli scored the last-second game-winner for Princeton is last season’s match-up with the Cavaliers.

In goal, Erin Tochihara is stopping .576 percent of shots faced, while allowing 9.11 goals per game.

In the all-time series between the two programs, Princeton’s goal with two seconds remaining on the clock last year gave the Tigers an 8-7 victory and pulled them within one in the all-time series, as Virginia leads, 14-13. In Charlottesville, the Cavaliers have a 9-4 advantage.

Virginia will return to action on Tuesday, heading down the road to Harrisonburg, Va., to take on No. 16 James Madison. Game time is slated for 7 p.m.
