Virginia Looks to Get Back on Track at No. 19 James Madison

CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. – The No. 9 Virginia women’s lacrosse team heads down the road to Harrisonburg, Va., on Tuesday to face No. 19 James Madison in a 7 p.m. contest. Live stats will be available on VirginiaSports.com.

The Cavaliers and Dukes enter the contest coming off losses to No. 9 Princeton last week. Virginia, falling 8-7 to the Tigers on Saturday, brings a 6-3 record into the game, while James Madison fell 13-11 to Princeton and is currently 4-3 on the season after a 10-9 loss to Loyola on Saturday.

Virginia is led by senior All-American Blair Weymouth’s 26 goals and senior All-American Ashley McCulloch’s 18 assists and 38 points. Junior Kaitlin Duff leads the midfield with 20 ground balls and 21 caused turnovers, while junior Brittany Kalkstein heads the team with 34 draw controls.

James Madison is led by Kim Griffin, who has 20 goals and 24 points. She also has a team-high 10 ground balls and 19 draw controls. In goal for the Dukes, Alex Menghetti is allowing 10.35 goals per game, while stopping .427 percent of shots faced.

In the all-time series, the squads have met at least once every season since 1977, with the Cavaliers holding a 26-10-1 advantage. When playing in Harrisonburg, Virginia is 10-6, with the Cavaliers winning the last four meetings on the road. The Cavaliers are currently on a seven game win-streak against their in-state rival.

No. 3 Duke awaits Virginia following the match, as the Cavaliers return home to host their conference-foe on Saturday. Opening draw is scheduled 3:30 p.m. at Klckner Stadium.
