CHARLOTTESVILLE Virginia senior Dominic Inglot (London, England) was named the ACC Men’s Tennis Player of the Week, conference officials announced Tuesday. Inglot led Virginia to victories over Clemson and Georgia Tech last week.
Inglot won a pair of matches at No. 1 singles for the Cavaliers in the victories. On Sunday, he defeated No. 12 Guillermo Gomez of Georgia Tech, the ACC’s highest ranked singles player, 6-3, 6-2. On Friday, he scored a 6-1, 6-4 win over Carlos Alvarez of Clemson. Inglot also was 2-0 in doubles on the week with partner Michael Shabaz (Fairfax, Va.).
The award is third of the season for Inglot, who was also named ACC Player of the Week on Jan. 27 and Feb. 10. It is the fourth award on the season for the Cavaliers as Drew Courtney (Clifton, Va.) was honored on Feb. 17.
The top-ranked Cavaliers (20-0, 5-0) secured their seventh consecutive 20-win season with the victories last week and increased its ACC winning streak (regular season and tournaments) to 36 matches. Virginia travels to the Sunshine State this week to play at Miami on Friday and at Florida State on Sunday.
